PRESS RELEASE

Our Diocese is 20, rejoicing in the Lord.

On 20th November 1999, the Diocese of Lagos West, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion was inaugurated and the first Diocesan Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Dr. Peter Awelewa Adebiyi was enthroned. Since then, to the glory of God, the Diocese has become acclaimed as the fastest growing in the church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion.

This informed the decision for an elaborate 20th Anniversary celebration, with a view to giving all the glory to the Lord who is the secret of all the successes recorded so far. The activities lined up for these celebrations will be kick – started at a press conference to be addressed by the incumbent Diocesan Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Dr. James Olusola Odedeji at his office on Sunday, October 6, 2019.

A special anniversary community hymn singing will hold simultaneously in all the churches across our Diocese on the 20th of October, 2019 and on the 25th of October 2019, the 20th Anniversary vigil will hold at all Archdeaconry headquarters within our Diocese.

A special triumphant convocation featuring ministrations of the word, music ministrations, prayers for the Diocese, Church of Nigeria, and our dear country, as well as deliverance sessions will hold between October 29th and 31st, 2019. On November 1st, a 12 hour praise night will bring all ministers of God led by the Bishop of Jalingo and the laity together. Prominent Gospel Artistes and choirs from various Archdeaconries have been invited also to this event.

Another major highlight is a Gala night / Awards ceremony on November 10th. On the same day, the second edition of the compendium of activities and achievements in the Diocese since 2009 will be launched. It is the second volume of the one published to mark the 10th year of our Diocese.

This will be followed by the commissioning of 20 numbers boreholes to provide portable water at various communities within our Diocese. It is part of our Christian Social Responsibility (CSR) to care for the needy and espouse pragmatic evangelism.

The grand finale is the anniversary thanksgiving service which will hold on the 20th of November, to which the Primate of all Nigeria, the Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh, has been invited. Guests from all over the country including Archbishops and Bishops have also been invited. The general public, the media and well wishers are invited to join in these programmes to the glory of God.

Signed:
Rt. Rev. (Dr.) James Olusola Odedeji
