The atmosphere of the Archbishop Vining Memorial Church Cathedral GRA, Ikeja, Lagos was charged with awesomeness of the presence of God as the Most Revd Edmund Akanya declared the Word of God at the 2014 Trinity Ordination and induction and institution of new Canons of the Diocese of Lagos West performed by the Lord Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos West, the Rt Revd James Olusola Odedeji. The Most Revd Akanya who is the Bishop of Kebbi and the Archbishop of Kaduna Province led the newly deaconed and priested in the ordination retreat. He preached from second Timothy 4:1-5 of the Holy Bible.
The Archbishop of Kaduna challenged the newly ordained that they are coming to the ministry at the time when the identities of ministers are being questioned in our society and our members are confused to know who is who. He further said he knew people would be congratulating them for being posted to the Diocese of Lagos West but it would have being better for them to find themselves in Dioceses where there are Boko Haram so that they can be on their knees all the time and be heavenly focus because coming to Lagos might make them loose their focus in the Lord if care is not taken.
The Bishop of Kebbi further said that God is not calling them to abandonment but to His grace to stir them to do extra ordinary things for the kingdom of God and that many pastors are dead today because they get involve in civilian matter. More so, he challenged that if they stay in a church for one year and they do not have a record of souls won for the Lord Jesus Christ, they have failed God in that year even if you amount so much money for the church that same year. You must tell them to get out of cult.
Archbishop Akanya highlighted from the 2 Timothy 4:1-4, the following points to the newly ordained and the new Canons.
• Preach the Word irrespective of false preachers in the church of God. The pulpit is a place to declare the mandate of God.
• Be ready in season and out of season. Do not look at people to preach.
• Rebuke. You must call what God calls hell, hell.
• Search the Scripture. When the Word of God is flowing through you it will touch members. You must look for the approval of God and not that of the Bishop.
Most Revd Akanya ended the sermon with altar call to the members and led the congregation to a powerful prayer session.
