DIACONATE TRINITY ORDINATION IN THE DIOCESE OF LAGOS WEST.

Four Ordinands were made deacons by the Diocesan Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos West, Rt. Rev. Dr. James Olusola Odedeji in a diaconate ordination service held at St Andrew s Church, Ogudu, on Saturday, 24th June, 2023. The lord Bishop, Rt. Rev Dr. James Olusola Odedeji, presided over the ordination service and, in his brief charge, told the new deacons that to be successful in a diocese like Lagos West Diocese, they must take a stand for God, be dutiful, and discipline their bodies.

The Archdeacon of Idimu Archdeaconry and preacher at the ordination service, Ven. OlaOluwa Adeyemi, in his sermon, admonished the newly ordained deacons to be faithful and loyal to God and their callings. He emphasized that as honourable as the ministry is, it can be very challenging and that the only way to succeed is to be close to God, who has called them into the ministry. He gave the new deacons, and by extension, all those who are called into the vineyard of God, some hints to serve as nuggets for successful ministry. These include knowing God personally, knowing oneself (by weaknesses and strength), and knowing how to deal with oneself. The preacher encouraged them to have living and active faith in God that called them to service. Ven. Adeyemi admonished them to make sacrifices for Christ and His cause if they wished to be successful in the ministry. He taught them among others to decide to be on the Lord s side, be dedicated to their ministry, identify the delicate and dangerous aspects of the ministry, and how to protect themselves.

Present at the service was the wife of the bishop, Dr. Mrs Lydia Olukemi Odedeji; lord Chancellor of the Diocese, Hon. Justice OpeOluwa Ogunade; the Deputy Chancellor, Hon. Justice Ayotunde Philips (former Chief Judge of Lagos State). Also, in attendance were the Bishop of Ijesha North, Rt. Rev. Dr. IwabiOlorun Oluyamo; the Bishop of Ilesa South West, Rt. Rev. Samuel Egbebunmi; a good number of dignitaries, priests, and their wives. It was also witnessed by wives and family members of the new deacons.
